Arrest of a man suspected of armed assault and criminal offenses

"On January 13, at around 3 in the morning, a 55-year old man was assaulted on the public road, rue Black Berry in Saint-Martin. The victim’s right knee was wounded by a firearm," reports the gendarmerie in a press release.

The research department, Saint-Martin detachment, immediately began the investigation of the facts. The investigations led to the identification and arrest of the perpetrator a few days later, on January 21, on the public road in Marigot.

The investigations also established that the person concerned was involved in several other criminal acts committed on the French and Dutch sides of the island.

The person was brought to court in Guadeloupe on January 23 and appeared before an investigating judge of the Criminal Division of the Pointe-à-Pitre prosecutor's office. A judicial inquiry has been initiated and the man has been placed in pre-trial detention at the jail in Baie Mahault.
