Sandy Ground Movie Theater still closed
Since early November 2016, there are movie screenings on the French side following a breakdown of the projector. According to the Sandy Ground Cultural Center who manages the movie theater, the breakdown occurred because of multiple power outages. Eight months later, the director of the association, Line Galvès still does not know when movies will being playing again. “We received the new projector in May. But before we fly in technicians from Miami to install it, we need to buy a generator to protect it in case of power outages,” she explained.
In the deliberations of the Executive Council on February 8th, 2017, the Collectivité decided to award extraordinary aid of €60,000 to the association of the Sandy Ground Cultural Center to buy a new projector, install it, and maintain it as well as purchase a generator. However, the company does not have enough money because it has suffered an large operating loss since November and it is going to ask for additional funding to buy a generator.
After, the new equipment will have to be tested. Until then, the movie theater will receive its films on hard drives shipped by Fedex. After the installation, the theater will be able to download them from Globecast to which it has a subscription.
