Zika: 1895 cases since the emergence of the virus in Saint Martin, 18 pregnant women have been infected
The estimated number of consultations among general practitioners by zika patients is down for the fourth consecutive week with an estimated 75 cases last week, according to the last health watch bulletin.
Since the emergence of the virus, 1895 clinically presumed zika cases have been observed among city doctors.
Another pregnant woman was confirmed to be infected, making a total of 18 pregnant women who have caught zika during their pregnancy. This figure is the cumulative number of infected pregnant women since the emergence of the virus.
Since the emergence of the zika virus, there has been one single neurological complication in April with a person whose infection by the virus had been biologically confirmed a few weeks earlier. No deaths have occurred among zika patients.
In Saint Barthélemy, 65 clinically presumed zika cases were reported by sentinel doctors last week, thus totalling 440 clinically presumed cases since the emergence of the virus.
It’s the highest estimated weekly number of clinically presumed cases since the beginning of the monitoring on the island. Two pregnant women have been infected by the virus in the Saint Barthélemy territory. Since the emergence of the virus, no neurological form has been reported among the island residents.
