A petition to save Tropical Wave

On February 11, an online petition was launched in order to save the Tropical Wave, the restaurant managed by Patrick a.k.a. Pat, on Le Galion beach.

For years, the ownership of the establishment was a source of dispute and the Conservatoire du Littoral was in the end recognized as being the owner. The Conservatoire announced a redevelopment project for the site totalling 1 million euros. The project includes the demolition of the former hotel in ruins which contains asbestos as well as Pat’s restaurant. The installation of “suitable facilities for picnics and resting” has also been planned. Furthermore, the Conservatoire also specified in a publication of the Natural Reserve, that a “value-creation study conducted by the Conservatoire plans to divert automobile traffic, as well as include a nautical base and a snack bar in the landscape ”.

The conservatoire has already been granted by the Collectivité a permit to demolish the former hotel.

At only a few days from the start of the construction work, a petition to save the Tropical Wave was launched on the net. As of now, 511 people have signed it. According to one of the comments posted, “this petition provides a soapbox for the longest standing representative of this beach who knows it better than anyone since he has protected it for nearly 40 years”. The petition also requests that “if future projects are made here”, they should be “debated with the local population”.

This is a fabulous, popular, and friendly beach and restaurant cared by Pat. It should not be demolished by any means!
