High school clash: 5 perpetrators identified by the gendarmes

In a press release, the gendarmerie gave an update on the investigation.

On 16 and 17 February 2016, four fights broke out within and near the Polyvalent High School of the North islands in Concordia. Directly or indirectly related, often for trivial reasons, they caused injuries which in some cases are serious, (up to seven days of temporary disability), said the gendarmerie commander Sébastien Manzoni in a press release.

This wave of violence caused a lot of excitement among the population and the teachers who used their right to withdraw for three days.

The flagrante delicto investigation assigned to the Marigot brigade community has identified five main perpetrators residing in neighborhoods considered to be sensitive on the Saint-Martin French side. With the agreement of the prosecution, a judicial operation was conducted on Tuesday 1 March which led to the suspects’ arrest.

Three of them were presented before a summary trial on the next day. At the request of a lawyer, the hearing was adjourned to 29 March in Basse-Terre. While waiting for their sentence, two suspects were issued a detention warrant and transferred to the Baie Mahault prison. The third was placed under strict court supervision.

For the same offenses, another individual will be summoned for a criminal law settlement on 5 April for verbal assaults against the gendarmes.
