Retail outlets allowed to open on Sundays
Sunday work is regulated in France. Only specific businesses can open if they belong to "sectors that are necessary for the continuity of the economic and social life" (restaurants, gas stations, etc.); other businesses need a derogation.
The President of the Territorial Council suggested to the elected officials to allow retail businesses located on the French side to open on certain Sundays in 2017. According to the law, the dates must be chosen before December 31, 2016, and the list may not include more than 12 Sundays.
It has therefore been acknowledged that retail shops can open every Sunday between January 8 and March 26, 2017.
It should be noted that these businesses must comply with the labor code, which provides for specific conditions.
