The Minister of Labor has launched two studies for Saint-Martin

Myriam El Khomri devoted part of the few hours of her trip to Saint-Martin to speak with socio-occupational interest groups.

Along with Jean Arnell, the CCISM President who hosted the meeting, all the French side socio-occupational interest groups were gathered: Fipcom-Medef, FTPE (federation of very small businesses), the hotel and restaurant association, the association of business owners, Initiative Saint-Martin Active, representatives from the building and public works sector, the mobile phone sector, the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (CESC). Wendel Cocks and Jeanne Vanterpool (from the economic department) represented the Collectivité.

“There were a lot of interventions. We addressed many themes such as taxes, the non-application of the CICE (the tax credit for employment and competitiveness)," said Myriam El Khomri during a press conference at the end of the meeting. "We also spoke about the environment and the socio-occupational interest groups explained how they suffered from unfair competition and the application of strict regulations," she added.

As a first solution, the Minister of Labor and Employment proposed to Saint-Martin what she had signed a few days earlier in Maripasoula in French Guiana, the establishment of a prospective study contract. It will involve determining "What are the sectors that need boosting and how we can support the economic development". Upon her return to Paris, the Minister will assign this folder to her services, specifically the General Delegation for Employment and Vocational Training (DGEFP).

Myriam El Khomri also announced that she wanted to launch an IGAS mission (General Inspectorate of Social Affairs) in order to make an assessment and better understand the difficulties.

After that, it will be up to the Collectivité to take action. "It will then be able to seize the government, as the general code of the territorial collectivités allows it to do, in order to ask for adaptations", said Myriam El Khomri.

Jean Arnell, the CCISM President, said on behalf of all the socio-occupational interest groups that they were "very satisfied" with their discussion with the Minister. "The missions can only be beneficial because they will deliver statistical data which we don’t have today," said Michel Vogel, the President of the Fipcom-Medef.
