High school brawl: one of the three culprits sentenced to 2 years in prison
The trial of the three individuals involved in the fight at the lycée professionnel on 17 February took place yesterday in Basse-Terre. Imprisonment and suspended jail sentences were ordered.
The three individuals were brought before the Criminal Court of Saint-Martin on March 2 for immediate appearance, but as one of them had asked for time to prepare his defense, the trial was therefore dismissed. At the same hearing, a warrant had been issued against two of them, and they had been detained that evening in Guadeloupe. Consequently, they were tried in Basse-Terre.
- MM, the eldest, was sentenced to two years imprisonment and the prohibition of carrying and owning a weapon for five years. He remains in jail. According to his lawyer during the immediate appearance in St. Martin, he was returning home to Concordia when, passing in front of the high school, he had witnessed a fight and had wanted to help the victim.
- SL was sentenced to eighteen months of suspended jail and probation for two years with the obligation to find a job, undergo treatment and the prohibition of carrying and owning a weapon for five years. He should not come into contact with the victim. After the hearing in St. Martin during which he had proved that he had a work contract, he was placed in custody. His detention was not ordered.
- Finally, KR whom had been placed on probation after his immediate appearance in St. Martin, was sentenced to one year suspended jail and probation for two years with the obligation to find a job and the prohibition of carrying and owning a weapon for five years.
